Labcorp is seeking a Phlebotomist STAT Processor to join our team at 401 Goffle Rd. Ridgewood, NJ.


Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:30am -4:30pm and rotating Saturdays 7:00am - 11:00am


Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform blood collections by venipuncture and capillary techniques for all age groups

  • Collect specimens for drug screens, paternity tests, alcohol tests etc.

  • Perform data entry of patient information in an accurate and timely manner

  • Process billing information and collect payments when required

  • Prepare all collected specimens for testing and analysis

  • Maintain patient and specimen information logs

  • Provide superior customer service to all patients

  • Administrative and clerical duties as necessary

  • Travel to additional sites when needed

  • receiving STAT specimens from other Patient Service Centers or doctors’ offices

  • receiving, verifying, and coordinating where the STAT test will be processed after being entered into the system

  • prepares the specimen for transport


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Phlebotomy certification or completed training program from an accredited agency or 6 months experience as a phlebotomist

We are currently seeking a Phlebotomist to work in either a Patient Service Center or Client office. In this role you will provide exceptional customer service, perform skilled specimen collections and be the face of the company. **Pay Range: $17.75 - $29.78 per hour


All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data

Phlebotomist’s may be eligible for participation in the PST Incentive Plan, which pays a quarterly bonus based on performance metrics.

Assumes responsibility for receiving, and determining acceptability of all specimens received in the Department of Pathology, preparing specimens according to designated protocol for each laboratory procedure, and engages in computer activity for the Laboratory Information System, and the Hospital Information System,

Obtains blood, and non-blood specimens from inpatients/outpatients/outreach by venipuncture from the arm and/or micro collections from fingers, or infant s heel in a variety of collection tubes, or capillaries some of which contain preservatives, or anticoagulants,

Assumes responsibility for actively contributing to section productivity, and cost effectiveness,

Assumes responsibility for recognizing situations that require referral to Technical Supervisor, Manager, Laboratory Director, or Chief of Section of Chairman of Department,

Phlebotomists are flexible, working at various pre-analytical locations including inpatient, outpatient stations and send out while maintaining an extensive level of attention to detail during patient interactions,

Phlebotomists working in outreach are assigned to various nursing home locations,

Understanding proper patient identification methods using two identifiers,

Knowledge of legal requirements pertaining to drawing blood, handling specimen samples, and the use of relevant medical equipment,

Experience using effective venipuncture techniques,

Knowledge of testing protocols, and the use of testing equipment,

Superb dexterity and hand-eye coordination are important,

Required:

Completion of a recognized phlebotomy course in Phlebotomy and or Medical Assistant or equivalent

Certification with an accredited Agency such as the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians, Inc,

1 year of practical phlebotomy experience

Successful completion of all Orientation Programs,

Centrifuges and pipettes off supernatant, splits specimens into multiple sections, and test analysis, setting up work sheets for large volume analyzers; collects blood and non blood specimens from nursing units, and transports Pathology Department,

Completes mandatory education in a timely manner,

Participates in on-going education including in service, continuing education, and others,

Follows prescribed methods for needle and syringe control, adhering to safety and infection control procedures, reports on unsafe conditions,

Greets patients and families, gives name, position, and department, explains procedures, verifies patient s name, hospital number, location from wristband to collection label before beginning procedure,

Logs in blood and non blood specimens into Pathology Dept,

via Hospital Information System and or Laboratory Information System, indicating accessioning time, type of specimen, patient identification, and quantity of sample; separates specimen labels for multiple section test analysis,

Maintains positive patient identification through the specimen collection process,

Obtains blood and or non-blood using computer labels,

Prepares all materials for specimen collection and labeling, prior to approaching patient s bedside, adhering to safety/infection control policies and procedures,

Prepares venipuncture site or skin puncture site; performs venipuncture or micro collection according to departmental and institution procedure and policies, obtaining clotted and or non clotted specimens for laboratory procedures in proper tubes and quantities,

Reviews on a periodic basis all policy, procedure, and instrument manuals to ensure compliance and maintain current knowledge of procedures,

Stocks shelves with phlebotomy supplies, issues 24-hour urine containers with or without preservative and maintains and cleans accessioning area/ draw station counters and equipment including centrifuge and refrigerators

Stocks and supplies phlebotomy carts with equipment necessary for obtaining blood from patients; complies with all expiration dates,

Washes hands before and after each patient,

Phlebotomists should possess excellent bedside manners and must be able to interact successfully with a wide variety of patients, making them comfortable during the collection process,

Billing Information,

Registration functions by calling clients, clinic, physicians to confirm handwritten orders, verified tests, and obtain accurate billing information,

Processed appropriate patient information ensuring that each specimen obtained had all pertinent data required including billing information,

Obtained accurate patient demographics and billing information to ensure proper billing of laboratory services,

Verified client or patient test orders and patient billing information by telephone,

Blood collection- Phlebotomists need extensive experience with collecting patient blood samples and donations, including following medical safety procedures,

Communication skills- Phlebotomists need excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with clients, patients, nurses, physicians, and coworkers both in person and on the telephone,

Maintain Patient Records- Phlebotomists maintain detailed patient records, making notes of medical issues or illnesses reported by patients during the collection process,

They ensure patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with medical regulations,

They also ensure that medical professionals receive patient information along with their blood samples.

Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors by performing venipuncture, monitoring the pheresis process and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • In compliance with SOPs, performs all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set-up, donor monitoring and donor disconnect.

  • In compliance with SOPs and Food & Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines, performs venipuncture on donors to begin pheresis process.

  • Evaluates vein performance of the donor to identify possible problems; makes necessary corrections in order to expedite donation time and ensure product quality and donor safety. Ensures donation process is efficient and makes adjustments when necessary to make the process a positive experience for the donor.

  • May educate new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma. Explains the screening process, the health screening tests performed, the appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition and any other information pertinent to the donor. Ensures that all donor questions are answered timely, accurately and professionally.

  • Maintains alertness to any reaction by donors and assists with reactions or notifies appropriate staff.

  • Uses Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents that occur during the pheresis process, such as machine alerts and alarms, volume variances and donor adverse events.

  • Required to perform calibrations and verify that maintenance has been performed as outlined in the SOPs. Required to respond to and resolve complex equipment alarms or donor issues.

  • Troubleshoots equipment failures. Creates incident documentation, removes and/or replaces equipment from service.

  • Monitors donor flow on the donor floor to assure continuous turnover. Alerts Group Leader of Supervisor of donor flow issues.

  • Collects arm samples or whole blood samples from donors for testing.

  • Ensures the accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Understands the policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs at the center if applicable.

  • Maintains clean efficient work environment, and ensures sufficient operating supplies and forms are available as needed. Follows all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures. Promotes safety in all actions.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all personnel, donor and center information.

  • May be cross-trained in other areas to meet the needs of the business.

  • Bilingual skills may be required, at the discretion of the organization, to meet the needs of the business.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


The expected base pay for this position at hiring is $21.34/hour - $23.30/hour. Please note this wage range reflects what CSL expects to pay for this position at the listed location as of the time of this posting. Individual base pay for a successful candidate within this range is determined by qualifications, skill level, experience, competencies and other relevant factors.


Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum twelve (12) months experience in a medical or health care environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.


For Centers located in CA the following experience is also required:


  • Persons performing automated plasmapheresis procedures must be at a minimum state certified as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I, OR

  • Current Registered Nurse by the State of California.
